A Totally Different Approach to Painting Watercolors Outdoors
John Singer Sargent called watercolor, "making the best of an emergency."
The emergency? A moment of perfect light.
His preference for watercolor en plein air seems odd to many painters. Isn't watercolor hard to control? What about drying time? And while you wait, doesn't the light on your subject fade away?
As a watercolorist, I have grappled with these same questions and marveled at how Sargent could use the medium to capture sunlight seemingly with ease.
After decades of painting and study I believe I have found a beautiful solution.
In this online class I will share how to paint sunlight in watercolor before it fades away.
We will learn an easy-to-understand method that you can apply at your easel the very next day to paint anything you like outdoors. This approach is not only more logical than the traditional way to paint in watercolor, it's also less stressful, and more fun.
Sargent set himself free in his watercolors, claiming "a pleasure to do, and a pleasure to keep."
Let's explore how to do this for ourselves in our own watercolors. All skill levels are welcome.
You have three ways to learn (see below). Please join me.
Thank you,
Richard
