How to Build Better Paintings

When I pick up a paintbrush, like a surfer paddling out, I'm going after a high.

To get that fix, the surfer chases a wave. I chase wavelengths of color.

These wavelengths, that merge to form color harmonies, can be especially subtle and slippery to grasp. When I get ahold of them in a painting, I feel a rush in my mind and body – a sense of well-being that can last for days.

Color is my fix (and with no bad side effects or risk of injury).

Like the surfer, a painter can learn, practice and hone specific mental and physical skills, so that when a magic moment arrives, you are ready and able to enter the zone.

In this online class I will share insights on:

  • The mind – how to channel your thinking to improve perception

  • The eyes – how to use them differently to better see color

  • The body – how to activate your whole body when painting, and how this can change your ability to sense color

  • The best exercise I know of to dramatically improve your mind, eyes and body to become a better painter (no sweat, it’s fun)
