Suggested Gear & Materials
You are welcome to use any pencil, paper, brushes and watercolors you like. That said, for those interested, below is a listing of the gear and materials that I will be using in the online class.
Purchase at your local art supplier, or click on the links (underlined text) to purchase online.
Pencil & Eraser
Paper
Saunders Waterford Watercolor Block / 16” x 12” (or any size you prefer) / Rough Surface / Regular White Color / 300gm (140lb)
Other good brands are Arches, Kilimanjaro, Fabriano and Khadi / any size you prefer / Rough or Cold-Press Surface / 300gm (140lb)
My suggestion is to stay away from inexpensive brands or any student-grade paper
The Saunders Waterford and Arches papers can be purchased from Jackson’s Art and Blue Rooster Art Supplies / Kilimanjaro paper can be purchased from Cheap Joe’s / Fabriano can be purchased at most art supply stores / Khadi Paper can be purchased at Blue Rooster Art Supplies, Hiromi Paper, and Amazon
Brushes
Any brushes you enjoy painting with, from flat brushes to round brushes, are fine to use in this class
I will be using flat brushes of varying sizes (3/8” and 1/2”) and round brushes of various sizes: #8, 6, and 4
You may also want to have a liner OR rigger OR small brush (for adding details) / you will be able to find these brushes at your local art supply store or online
Palette
I will be using my Portable Painter Palette during class
The Portable Painter Palette is excellent and inexpensive / get the “Classic Plus Kit” (it has extra wells for additional paint colors, if desired) / visit Portable Painter and enter promo code SCOTT during checkout to receive a 10% discount on your order (promo code is case sensitive)
Watercolors
(Left) The watercolor paints I will be using in the online class / (Right) The watercolors laid out in my Portable Painter Palette
The palette and paint layout shown above is EXACTLY how my palette will look in the online class (this supersedes the old palette layout shown in the Color Mixing Tips video)

All of the paints listed above can be purchased online from various art suppliers, such as Jackson’s Art.
